![]() ![]() I tried not to make those kinds of assumptions. Poster courtesy of our treasured IphigeneĪmanda Hocking, the 26 year old author, has been described as a ‘self-publishing phenomenon’ and a ‘rockstar in the e-publishing world.’ Prior to April 2010 she has never sold a single book in her entire life. Now with such an introduction, we may be tempted to automatically assume either (a) the best or (b) the worst – in her writing style, storyline, character-building and such. I also thought that it would be perfect for our current theme this January/February on carnivale, the circus, and all things paranormal. What piqued my interest is the story behind Switched and its publication – rather than the story of Switched itself. However, I was intrigued by the book cover, and I’ve always taken pride in the fact that I’m pretty open when it comes to exploring new genre and discovering new authors. I had my reservations when I first received the book from Pansing Books – since, among the three of us here in GatheringBooks (Fats, Iphigene, and myself) I usually review picture books and children’s literature.
